web hosting: domains
One of the questions I'm most frequently asked is "can you get a domain name for me"; the simple answer is YES, I can - but I prefer not to.
Why do I prefer not to?
Ownership of a domain name is the legal entitlement to that domain name and also provides the link between the domain name and the content of the web site. I do not believe it appropriate for the web designer, or the web hosting company, to be the owner of the domain name.
If I own the domain name, you have no legal rights to it.
I recommend NameCheap as a fast, secure and reliable domain registration company.
However... recognising that not everyone wants to dip their toes into the world of domains and nameservers, I will register a domain on your behalf, but insist (for your protection as well as mine) that:
- You are listed as the owner of the domain (I can arrange for your personal details - except your name - to be 'hidden' from view)
- I am only listed as the administraive contact.
I will, of course, administer your domain for you, ensuring that the correct nameserver information is used and will remind you when the domain is due for renewal.
